Your Support Makes Healing Possible
Your donation helps us grow our programs and reach more individuals and communities in need. Every contribution—large or small—builds a stronger, more compassionate society and brings us one step closer to healing. Support us in delivering care, connection, and hope to those who need it most. Together, we can reweave the social fabric of Israel and rebuild resiliency—one person, one community at a time.

A Nation in Crisis.
A Community for Healing.
Israel is facing an unprecedented mental health crisis.
Nearly 40% of the population is suffering from trauma-related symptoms, and the existing mental health system simply cannot meet the growing demand. At the same time, the social fabric that once held us together—our communities—is unraveling under the strain. The support networks we’ve long relied on in times of hardship are fraying.
In response to this urgent national need, Kehilanu was born.
Kehilanu is a nonprofit organization offering a vital and innovative response for people coping with trauma. This model is rooted in a simple but powerful truth: healing is more effective when personal and communal processes work hand in hand.
Kehilanu: Community Heals
Kehilanu is a nonprofit initiative led by a team of experienced trauma professionals. It is a labor of love—and a bold new model for healing.
We combine two powerful, evidence-based methods:
-
Support Groups
-
Trauma-Informed Community Building
This integrated model is rooted in the understanding that healing is not only an individual journey, but also a communal one. Personal recovery is amplified when accompanied by belonging and meaningful connection.
Our goal is to transform trauma from an isolating experience into one of intimacy, meaning, and mutual support—shifting people from helplessness to hope, from fragmentation to empowerment.
What We Offer
-
Multidisciplinary, customized support groups, grounded in both traditional and alternative therapeutic methods
-
Trauma-informed community spaces and activities that foster connection and reduce stigma
-
Inclusive, stigma-free access—no diagnosis required
-
Safe spaces for gathering and healing, open to all trauma backgrounds
-
Collaborations and partnerships with existing communities and organizations to expand our national impact
Through this dual approach, participants are invited not only to heal—but to help shape communities where others can heal too. A core element of our work is recognition—acknowledging the trauma people have experienced. The power of being seen is central to our process. As people begin to feel acknowledged in their pain, they also find strength in recognizing others—creating a cycle of healing that empowers everyone involved. This is often a crucial first step in healing. As participants feel validated, they are more open to connecting with others—and more inclined to offer that same recognition in return. In this way, everyone both gives and receives, creating a cycle of mutual support. This is the heart of a trauma-informed community.

Why Kehilanu?

Why Now?
October 7th and its aftermath left Israel grappling with widespread trauma, affecting nearly 40% of the population. With this massive volume, it is not surprising that the existing mental health structure can’t cope, as confirmed by the State of Israel’s Comptroller recently released and deeply troubling report highlighting a dire lack of treatment. The majority of those suffering are ‘walking wounded’, buckling under the weight of a staggering emotional load, risking an even more debilitating downward spiral. Individual counselling is not a feasible solution to treat close to half the country. Additionally, mental health professionals themselves are overwhelmed by secondary trauma/compassion fatigue. Put simply, the majority of Israelis are not able to access critical therapeutic support to heal the gaping wounds of trauma and that is a BIG PROBLEM. A compounding issue in this already tragic situation is that the widespread pain of the past year has eroded the initial solidarity Israelis felt after the massacres. Loneliness, decompensation, and division are growing, deepening social isolation and unraveling the traditional basis of informal support: our communities. Healing is more urgent than ever. To heal as individuals, communities and a nation, we need a trauma treatment model that’s accessible, stigma-free, supports all trauma types, doesn’t require a formal diagnosis, nurtures a framework of mutual support and ensures long-term healing.
Why This?
Our model meets the criteria above taking the distinctive approach of using support groups and trauma informed community building (TICB). This innovative solution, means that we are addressing both the need for high volume trauma treatment and repairing Israel’s social fabric. By flipping the common denominator of trauma from an experience of isolation to one of belonging, we are promoting deeper and longer-term healing. This approach fosters connections so that we can truly engage with others’ experiences, support each others’ resilience and promote Israel’s social cohesion.
This unique model will be implemented in Israel for the first time, using three elements:
1. Support groups – foster healing by creating bonds through shared pain, recovery, and validation. Each support group will be customized for people who experienced a specific trauma. We will employ traditional and alternative therapies like psychotherapy, mind-body techniques, and art therapy.
2. Community-building activities (TICB) – connect participants across different trauma backgrounds, through curated activities such as cultural events, sports, arts, education, volunteering and activism. They provide safe spaces and life-affirming interactions, which reduce isolation, build support networks and reintegrates individuals into society. Ultimately, this provides a return to normalcy and promotes a community of wellness.
3. Outreach & partnerships – collaborate with organizations, communities, and companies to customize support structures. The model will be scaled nationwide, focusing on regions most affected by ongoing conflict.
Our solution is groundbreaking as it provides access to critical care and support without requiring a formal diagnosis. Additionally, the model is innovative as the fusion of support groups and Trauma-Informed Community Building enables individuals who have undergone a specific traumatic experience to bond together in a tailored support group, while also allowing them to come together with survivors of all types within the community building activities. Breaking down the barriers that pain leads us to erect is vital, as when we truly interact and understand another’s pain, even when their loss or hurt was different from our own, we are better able to help each other heal.
